Around the Arctic ice cap in 120 days

In May 2013 the French schooner Tara embarked to circumnavigate the Arctic Ocean, via the Northeast and Northwest passages, to record the diversity of its planktonic life.  Five Maine residents took part in this scientific and human adventure, covering 25,000 km over a period of 6 months.  Two of the adventurers will share their experiences contrasting the Russian, Canadian and Greenland Arctic.

2012 Speaker Series

As 2011 turns into 2012, some news stories stay new. The Arab world faces fascinating and severe challenges as its citizens challenge its old dictatorships. Come hear a first hand account of the Arab Spring as it burst over Egypt. Journalist Justin Martin and his wife, Natalie, will show slides and give a talk about their eyewitness experiences in Egypt, as well as their travels elsewhere in the Arab region. 4pm Sunday, January 15th at the Doris Twitchell Allen Village on UMaine’s campus. Information attached.  Refreshments served.
